DEER PARK, NY — A Deer Park student has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Nicholas Stamatakis, a senior at Deer Park High School, was announced as one of about 34,000 students nationwide to receive a Letter of Commendation in recognition of outstanding academic promise. According to the National Merit Scholarship Program's website, Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, but many become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

Stamatakis earned his acknowledgment through his performance on the 2020 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test, said the Deer Park School District. He is currently enrolled in numerous AP courses, as well as college-level Italian, and has already received college credit toward his future post-high school academic career.
