End Of Summer BBQ Brings School Supplies, Haircuts To Wheatley Heights

Senator Monica Martinez is hosting a back-to-school BBQ offering free school supplies, haircuts and more in Wheatley Heights on Sunday.

WHEATLEY HEIGHTS, NY — With the new school year just around the corner, school supplies are in high demand and communities are coming together to help students start the year off right.

On Sunday, New York State Senator Monica Martinez's Second Annual End of Summer Community BBQ in Wheatley Heights will offer backpacks and school supplies to families in attendance.

However, the event will offer more than the equipment needed for the classroom. In addition to providing free backpacks and essential school supplies, students who attend can enjoy free barber services, fun activities, food, treats, music and much more.

“This barbecue is more than just a celebration – it’s an investment in our community and our children’s future,” Martinez said. "The event is about uniting neighbors, supporting one another and guaranteeing that no child is left behind. By providing essential supplies and services, we’re ensuring every student in our district is prepared to succeed as they head back to school."

The BBQ will take place on Sunday, August 25, from noon to 2 p.m. at Hermann Griem Park at 54 Brown Boulevard in Wheatley Heights. Backpacks will be available while supplies last.
