Falcons Win Season Opener

A second-quarter touchdown lifted the Falcons to a 7-6 win.

A Jasawn Thompson touchdown run in the second quarter lifted the Deer Park Falcons past the Rocky Point Eagles 7-6 on Thursday night in Deer Park.

Thompson plowed into the end zone as Deer Park drove more than 70 yards late in the second quarter on a strong running game.

Rocky Point had jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on a 60-yard touchdown pass, after an Eagles wide receiver made his way behind the Falcons secondary. The extra point was no good.

For Deer Park, it's a solid start to the varsity football season. The Falcons, who lost to Rocky Point by two touchdowns in 2012, are off to a 1-0 start.

The Falcons are off until Sept. 21, when they visit Harborfields.
