Firefighters Rescue Driver Trapped After Crashing Into Woods: FD

The driver crashed into a tree off the Southern State Parkway on Thursday afternoon.

NORTH BABYLON, NY - Firefighters rescued a driver trapped after crashing into a tree on the Southern State Parkway in North Babylon on Thursday afternoon.

A car reported crashed into the woods on the parkway eastbound, east of exit 37 at about 4:33 p.m.

First on scene was former chief John Ippolito of the Bay Shore Fire Department.

He notified firefighters that the driver was trapped inside and unable to get out.

Members of the North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company responded and used extrication tools to work to free the driver.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for evaluation.

No serious injuries were reported.
