Darrel Clark, a certified teacher’s aide at Deer Park’s John F. Kennedy Intermediate School, was recognized by the Developmental Disabilities Institute in October for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which serves to highlight the important contributions made to the national workforce by people with disabilities.

Clark has been receiving DDI’s Supported Employment Service since 2007, which assists people with disabilities to find, secure and maintain jobs in their community that fit their needs, interests and experience. He has been employed with the Deer Park School District for the last 14 years, working in classrooms supporting children with special needs and assisting in the school library. He received the Hats Off Award for his outstanding work in February 2020. Since the reopening of school, Clark monitors the hallways and bathrooms to ensure that everyone adheres to the safety protocols in place to keep everyone safe from the spread of COVID-19.

Clark is also an author, and has written two children’s books, “The Happy Frog” (2012) and “Millie the Special Chicken” (2017). He is currently working on his third book.
