A Jump Shot and a Jump Start on a Brilliant Academic Career!

Deer Park’s Saints Cyril and Methodius (SSCM) graduating Eighth Grader, Christopher Liegey scored more than a few good points and some teammate friends for life during his eight years of playing, coaching and refereeing CYO Basketball in the community. This youngster’s dedication and hard work has paid off in countless ways, spilling over into his love of learning and his commitment to community, earning him the Ryan T. Horodnicki Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence, service and athletic ability.

Christopher was also granted the Cyrillian Scholarship, sponsored by SSCM’S Rosary Altar Society, which is awarded based on character and involvement in the community. Also awarded academic scholarships to his top three schools of choice, St. John the Baptist, St. Anthony’s, and Holy Trinity, based on his performance on the Co-Op (Cooperative Admissions exam), young Christopher is well positioned for a bright future indeed!

And that’s only part of the full story. Christopher also won an award from the Cradle of Aviation Museum for their iConnect Challenge and in-house awards for excellence in Religion and Advanced Algebra. It’s no small feat, either, that in between lectoring at SSCM’s Family Mass for the past five years, running on SSCM’s Cross Country Team for the past three years, and SSCM Basketball Team for two years, Christopher still managed to remain focused on the importance of his academic career.

Christopher’s dedication is further evidenced by his two years of involvement in SSCM’S Shakespeare Ensemble, which is nicely rounded out by Christopher’s involvement for the past six years in SSCM’s School Band, SSCM’s Gifted and Talented program, and SSCM’s Distinguished Scholars program.

St. John the Baptist will be blessed with Christopher’s attendance in the fall and we wish him all the best!
