Laura Grau Named Winner in the

Hauppauge, NY…

 

Laura Grau, Manager of Volunteer Services at Winthrop University Hospital, was the winner in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS, www.lls.org/li), Long Island Chapter’s 2013 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. Laura raised nearly $20,000 through a variety of fundraising activities. She was named the winner at the Grand Finale event held on June 12th at the Carlyle on the Green in Farmingdale, NY. Funds raised through the campaign are used for: lifesaving blood cancer research; financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing; free educational materials and events for patients and their families; local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program; and comprehensive, personalized assistance through the Society’s Information Resource Center.

In addition to her support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Laura is passionate about many other charities, including the American Heart Association and American Lung Association, the National Association for Mental Illness and the Girl Scouts of America.

Her civic affiliations include that of: Treasurer and member of the Executive Board for Long Island Association of Directors of Volunteers Services (LIADVS), Chair of the Supervisory Committee and liaison for Winthrop University Hospital Employee Federal Credit Union (WUHEFCU). She also is active with Association of Professional Volunteer Administrators (APVA), The Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals (AHVRP) Wings of Winthrop, Deer Park School/Industry

Advisory Board, Ascension Lutheran Church (ALC) Audit Committee, and the Nassau and Suffolk Chapters of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW).

 

She resides in Deer Park, NY.
