Local Fundraiser To Donate Part Of Proceeds To Marchese Family

The local softball team will be helping to raise money for the family of 18-year-old Melissa Marchese, who was killed in a crash last week.

DEER PARK, NY - A local softball team will be donating a portion of their car wash fundraiser in Deer Park to the family of Melissa Marchese, who was killed in a car crash last week.

The star softball player and senior at Shoreham Wading River High School suffered from serious injures after a crash on Route 25A in Shoreham while on her way with two others to a Seniors Award night.

The 18-year-old was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and underwent brain surgery all night but unfortunately died from her injuries the next day.

The LI Crush Fastpitch 12U softball team will be hosting a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, June 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texas Roadhouse parking lot on 502 Commack Road.

The fundraiser was set up weeks ago for the team's upcoming week long Nationals Tournament in Conneticut next month.

However, after learning about the crash, the team has decided to donation part of the car wash fundraiser to her family and will also be collecting donations directly for the family.

Marchese was a part of the LI Crush Fastpitch 18u team and has played for the organization since she was 11.

"She was a role model on and off the field and will be deeply missedso my 12u Team is hosting this car wash," head coach Joe Kaplan said.
