Unique virtual event raises funds to help Long Islanders affected by Coronavirus.

Press release from the Long Island Insurance Community:
October 5, 2020
(Deer Park, NY) – The Long Island Insurance Company (LIIC) held its first Text-a-thon on October 1, 2020 - a virtual event unlike any other on Long Island - raising $92,000 to benefit United Way of Long Island’s United Together: A Response Fund for COVID-19.
For 26 years, the LIIC has been a dedicated network of insurance community supporters of United Way. With many challenges presented this year, including how to safely and successfully participate in fundraising events, members rose to the occasion to ensure that their annual tradition of giving continued through a virtual format: The 2020 Long Island Insurance Community Text-a-thon.
“As most of our colleagues are working remotely, we decided the best way to share stories, communicate impact and recognize supporters, is through digital technology. We are overwhelmed by the success of the Text-a-thon and outpouring of support to help our neighbors in need,” said Gloria Gargano, LIIC Co-Chair and United Way of Long Island Board of Directors Member.
“We are extremely proud of the Long Island Insurance Community for developing a creative opportunity for their members to continue giving back through fundraising. Now, more than ever, their contributions are critical to helping United Way respond to the changing needs of Long Islanders due to the coronavirus,” Theresa A. Regnante, President and CEO of United Way of Long Island. “With the LIIC’s support, we are able to help seniors, who are isolated at home, access critical needs and resources.”
During the Text-a-thon, attendees received text messages to join three, 10-minute livestream sessions throughout the day, as well as received messages with encouragement to give. Sessions included messages from LIIC Co-Chairs, United Way community partners and executives, video content, and multiple chances to win raffle prizes.
The Long Island Insurance Community is still accepting contributions to the 2020 Text-a-thon. To support, text the word “textathon” to 313131 or visit www.L-I-I-C.org/2020textathon.
