Long Island Man Pleads Guilty To Wife's 2020 Murder
Paul Bonny fired about three shots from a handgun at his wife, Cathiana, then shot himself in front of their children, DA says.
DEER PARK, NY — A Deer Park man has plead guilty to shooting his wife — mortally wounding her — before turning his gun on himself in front of their two childen in the driveway of their home back in 2020, Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney said Thursday.
Paul Bonny, 35, admitted in court that just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2020, he shot his wife "with the intent to kill her," prosecutors said, adding that an investigation found he and his wife, Cathiana Bonny, were "arguing in the driveway of their home when he shot her."
Their two daughters, who were then aged 12 and 6, were inside of a vehicle in the driveway when Bonny "pulled out a handgun and fired about three shots, striking his wife in the head and the torso before turning the gun on himself," according to prosecutors.

Following the guilty plea, Tierney opined that domestic violence cases "are especially traumatizing to the children having to witness them."
"This defendant not only killed his wife in front of their two young daughters, but he further traumatized them by pulling the trigger on himself in a cowardly attempt to escape justice,” he said, adding, “Now he has left two young girls without parents and he’s going to spend an extensive amount of time in prison paying for what he’s done.”
Bonny is now facing 21 years to life in prison when he is due back in court for sentencing on May 24 before Justice John Collins.
