Man Pleads Guilty In Crash That Severed Mailman's Leg

The 52-year-old pleaded guilty to assault, vehicular assault and other charges Monday.

A 52-year-old Deer Park man pleaded guilty to assault, vehicular assault and other charges Monday stemming from a crash last April that critically injured a mail carrier, authorities said.

Stefano Belloisi was driving a 1998 Lincoln Continental on Prairie Drive in North Babylon on April 11 when he veered off the road and hit the mailman, a mail truck, a fire hydrant and a telephone pole. The postal worker, a 40-year-old man from Bayport, suffered a severed leg.

Belloisi was also charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, cocaine possession and reckless driving.

State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho will sentence Belloisi to four years in state prison on Dec. 14.

Belloisi remains in county jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
