May Moore Students Enter Young Artists Poster Contest
Second graders entered an area-wide contest held by the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Doreen Bellantoni’s class at Deer Park’s May Moore Primary School invited one student from each second-grade class to join them in entering a Long Island-wide poster contest held by the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The students at May Moore joined together to create a poster that illustrates the power of positive communication and the ways that communication has the ability to connect people. Students discussed the different methods of communication that are used by themselves and their peers, including verbal communication, sign language and communication devices. Some students drew pictures of themselves using nonverbal communication, such as communication devices and sign language, while others illustrated themselves using kind words or added handprints to the center of the poster.
