North Babylon Announces 2 National Merit Commended Students

The students were recognized by the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program for their academic performance.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — Two North Babylon High School students have been named as commended students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The North Babylon School District announced Thursday that seniors Justine Borgia and Victoria Fowler were two of about 34,000 students nationwide to receive a letter of commendation in recognition of outstanding academic accomplishment.

Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program's website, commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, but many become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
