North Babylon Kindergartners Explore Rain Clouds Through Science Experiment

Kindergartners at a North Babylon elementary school took part in a classroom experiment to learn how rain clouds work.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — Kindergartners at William E. DeLuca Elementary School recently stepped into the role of young scientists and meteorologists during a hands-on weather lesson focused on cloud formation and rainfall.

Students in Jodi Rebholz’s and Erica Castaldo’s classes explored basic weather patterns and seasonal changes while learning how clouds hold water and produce rain. As part of the activity, students made predictions about how much water a “cloud” could hold before it began to rain.

Using simple materials, including cotton to represent clouds and droppers filled with colored water, students tested their ideas by slowly adding water and observing what happened as the “cloud” became saturated.

The interactive lesson helped bring science concepts to life, allowing students to observe cause-and-effect relationships while applying critical thinking and observation skills in a fun, real-world way.

Teachers said the activity encouraged curiosity, discussion, and engagement, giving students an early introduction to scientific experimentation through hands-on learning.
