North Babylon School Budget Results Are In: See How Voters Weighed In

Capital Reserve Propositions; board of trustees races decided.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — North Babylon School District voters approved the district’s proposed $159,733,147 budget for the 2026-27 school year Tuesday and elected three members to the Board of Education.

The budget passed 593-235.

The approved spending plan represents a 3.90 percent increase over the current year’s $153,731,203 budget. The budget carries a 2.4 percent tax levy increase and remains within the district’s tax levy cap.

District officials said the budget maintains all existing student programs while expanding support services based on student needs, including additional staffing in English as a New Language and special education.

The budget also introduces new high school course offerings, including College Anatomy and Physiology, Current Events and Media Literacy, Digital Literacy II, Drone Technology, Introduction to Cybersecurity, Long Island History, Real Estate and Wall Street Investments.

The approved spending plan includes a new K-6 mathematics program, capital improvements addressing drainage issues on the baseball and softball fields, and districtwide security upgrades, including interior door locks, PA system upgrades, repairs to the retractable security gate at Parliament Place and fence repairs at Woods Road Elementary School.

The district also plans to purchase one new 60-passenger bus, replace marching band uniforms, continue the athletic uniform replacement cycle, replace AEDs districtwide, replace wrestling mats and purchase new musical instruments and art equipment.

According to district budget documents, program spending accounts for the largest portion of the budget, increasing from $116,818,604 to $120,437,314. Administrative spending increases from $13,680,417 to $14,499,856, while capital spending increases from $23,232,182 to $24,795,977.

Board Of Education Election

Voters also elected three trustees to the Board of Education.
Four candidates ran at-large for three seats. Jeffrey Myers received 591 votes, Keisha Rivers received 569 votes and Karen Schmitt received 496 votes, securing the three available seats. Dan Caroleo received 350 votes.

Myers’ term begins May 19 and runs through June 30, 2029, representing the balance of an unexpired term. Rivers and Schmitt were elected to three-year terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2029.

District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
