Man Charged With Driving On Drugs After Hitting Pedestrian: Cops

The 22-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck on Wednesday afternoon.

WYANDANCH, NY — A Dix Hills man for driving while on drugs after he struck and critically injured a pedestrian in Wyandanch on Wednesday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.

Daniyal Syed, 24, was driving a 2013 Toyota RAV4 southbound on Straight Path when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street from the west side of the road to east side of the road near State Avenue at 2 p.m., police said.

The pedestrian, 22-year-old Jonathan Yanes, of Wyandanch, was transported by Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Community Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Syed was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and four counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Syed’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check. He will be held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 19.
