Police ID Man Found Dead in Deer Park

UPDATE 5 p.m. Friday: The man found dead has been identified as 25-year-old Marlon Velasquez, of Brentwood. Homicide Squad detectives have charged Christopher Chavez, 21, of 149 Old Country Road, with first degree manslaughter. He will be held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

DEER PARK, NY – The man found dead in a Deer Park road Thursday afternoon may have been killed several hours earlier, police told Patch on Friday.

The man, who had stab wounds, was found in front of 145 Old Country Road around 1:30 p.m Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Detectives believe the man may have been killed several hours before the body was found. The victim’s identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
