Police: Florida Man Attempts to Flee After Telling Troopers He Smoked Pot in Car

A Florida man told state troopers that he was smoking marijuana in his car and then attempted to flee at a road check on the Southern State Parkway in Bay Shore Tuesday afternoon, state police said.
When a Nissan drove through the road check on the westbound Southern State at the Exit 42 south exit ramp at 12:18 p.m., troopers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, police said.

Jason Williams, 30, of Gainesville, Fla., told troopers that he was smoking marijuana inside the vehicle, police said. Williams exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody, police said. While searching Williams, troopers recovered a small amount of heroin on his person, police said.
Williams is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
