Police ID Woman Injured In Fatal Suffolk DWI Crash: Police

A North Babylon man was charged with DWI after the crash that left 1 man dead and seriously injured a woman, police say.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — Police have identified Patricia Leahy, 54, of East Islip, as the passenger injured in a crash in North Babylon Sunday night that left one man dead — and another charged with driving while intoxicated, according to authorities.

Earlier this week, police identified the man killed in the DWI crash Sunday night as John McHale, 67, of North Babylon.

According to Suffolk County police, David Valles, 31, of North Babylon, was driving a 1987 Ford Mustang on Bay Shore Road, near Duke Street, when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a pole, at. 6:09 p.m.

McHale was pronounced dead at the scene; Leahy was transported with serious injuries to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, police said.

Valles was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Valles was arrested and charged with DWI, police said, adding that the vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
