POLL: Should There Be Paid Parking At The Copiague Train Station?
The Town of Babylon is considering implementing a new program to change the parking policy at the local train station. What do you think?

COPIAGUE, NY - For those who have been taking advantage of the free parking at the Copiague Train Station -- you might soon be out of luck.
Town of Babylon officials recently announced they are considering changing the parking policy in the local train station, which is the only LIRR station on the Babylon line to offer completely free parking.
"The Town of Babylon is committed to the revitalization of the heart of downtown Copiague," a message on the Town's website reads. "We are very excited about the positive changes taking place in this area. In order to further our commitment to the revitalization of Copiague, the Town is reviewing the parking supply around the train station and areas that abut the Copiague business district."

According to the message, the town created a Parking Management Plan for the local train station after finding that many of the parking lots in this area are "mostly unregulated."
"These unregulated parking lots attract parkers from surrounding areas and places an undue burden on the local parking supply and the Town in general as we strive to keep the lots clean and in a state of good repair," the message reads.

The town currently offers free parking permits to residents but there is still free parking open to all commuters at the station.
If the new program is implemented, the parking lots located along Marconi Boulevard on Vespucci Avenue and Colombo Avenue will either require paid parking permits or have meters.
If approved, the plan would be implemented sometime this year.
Officials advise residents that the Copiague Railroad Resident Parking Permit for the Town of Babylon-owned surface parking lots north of Marconi Boulevard near the Copiague Train Station, which were issued in 2018, will be effective until further notice.
