Season Preview: North Babylon Girls Soccer
Eight starters back for the Lady Bulldogs, who hope to return to the playoffs this season.

With the new school year right around the corner, we are checking in with the coaches at North Babylon and Deer Park high schools to see what's in store for their teams this year.
Today, we take a look at the North Babylon varsity girls soccer team. Below is a Patch Chat with Steve Corrado, who is in his 6th season as the coach of the Lady Bulldogs, who have a record of 52-31-3 over that span.
"Last season we were 5-11 and suffered our first losing season since 2004," Corrado told Patch. "This season's team looks to return to the playoffs on the strength of eight starters returning from last year. The 2012 team featured a majority of underclassmen as starters. The experience of last year should begin to payoff this season."
1) What are the strengths of the team?
Strength of the team will be the back 1/3 of the field. The defense is led by 5-year player, Casey Fackner (senior), a two-time All-Conference selection, at the central defense position. Emily Scheuer (senior) and Alexis Rutha (junior) are both three year starters and join Fackner on the backline to create a formidable defense.
Another strength is Angela DiFazio (sophomore) in goal. DiFazio will continue to emerge as one of the top goalkeepers in the county with experience. Another strength is the emergence of Dana Sheriff (sophomore) in the central midfield position and last season two leading goal scorers returning to the forward line in Amanda Wroblewski (junior) and Allison Kennedy (sophomore). Sheriff is joined in the midfield by Erin Brembs (junior).
2) Which games have your circled on your schedule?
The only game the team has circled is game 1! The team needs to focus on games one at a time and not look past any opponent. The season opens on Sept. 7 at Bellport, 10 a.m. start for a non-league contest. Our first home game is Monday Sept. 9 at Phelps Lane Park, 6 p.m. start against perennial playoff power and neighboring Deer Park.
3) Goals for the team as the season begins?
1. To give our very best every day
2. To qualify for the playoffs
If we can achieve those we can reset our goals later in the season.
