Teen Killed In Crash On Southern State Parkway: Police

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday between exits 36 and 37, New York State Police said.

BABYLON, NY — A 17-year-old is dead after the car they were riding in crashed into trees off the Southern State Parkway in Babylon, according to New York State Police.

In a statement released Saturday, police said a 2009 Nissan Altima driven by a 16-year-old was traveling westbound on the Southern State Parkway when the car left the road and struck trees and brush on the north shoulder.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes between exits 36 and 37, police said.

According to police, the 17-year-old — a passenger in the front seat of the car — died at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital where police said they are in critical condition.
