Teen Shot, Critically Injured While Driving On Sunrise Highway

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A teenager was critically injured after a shooting in North Babylon on Wednesday night, Suffolk County Police said.

A 17-year-old male was driving a 2007 Honda CRV east in the center lane of Sunrise Highway, east of Exit 39 at about 10:10 p.m., when he was struck in the chest by several gunshots, police said. The shots were fired at him from the passenger side of a black vehicle as it passed the Honda, police said.

The Honda then struck the rear of another vehicle before crashing into the center median and coming to a stop, police said. The 17-year-old called 911 to report the incident, police said.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital in critical condition; there were no other injuries, police said.
