Judo is the art of Leverage called the "Gentle Way"... Although, if you watched a Judo Match, it doesn't look so gentle, it kind of looks like wrestling with Martial Arts uniforms on, but the win is to throw your opponent on his back for a full IPPON (Full Point) or hold the down for 25 seconds, or submit them with either a well placed choke or arm bar.
However, participants are taught techniques to protect and preserve their own bodies to play the sport. Yes, I said PLAY, not fight! As Judo is an art that has not punching and kicking like Karate, Boxing or MMA. However, used properly, one can subdue and submit an opponent quickly, when trained properly.Students learn to FALL! Forwards, Backwards and Sideways!
They learn to roll out
A well trained student can certainly compete in forums locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally gaining rank and points to possibly even make the Olympics! It takes heart and dedication
