Wrong-Way Deer Park Crash Injured Elderly Couple, 3 Others: DA

DEER PARK, NY — A Dix Hills man pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated vehicular assault and other charges stemming from a 2025 wrong-way crash in Deer Park that injured five people, including a couple in their 70s, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.

Miandad Khan, 38, admitted he was impaired by marijuana when he caused a series of crashes on Deer Park Avenue on May 17, 2025, prosecutors said.

According to court documents and Khan’s plea allocution, he was driving a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350 north on Deer Park Avenue at about 3:20 p.m. when he struck a 2020 Acura near Jacqueline Way.

Prosecutors said Khan then sped over a landscaped center median and entered the southbound lanes while continuing north in an attempt to flee the scene.

Khan struck a Honda SUV occupied by two teenagers, causing the vehicle to spin out, authorities said. He continued north through the intersection of Grand Boulevard before crashing head-on into a Toyota RAV4 occupied by a couple in their 70s, according to prosecutors.

The impact caused both vehicles to crash into other cars that were stopped at a traffic light, authorities said.

The two occupants of the RAV4 had to be extricated from the vehicle and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where they underwent surgery for facial and spinal fractures, prosecutors said.

The teenagers in the Honda were also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, while the driver of the Acura received medical treatment for her injuries, according to the district attorney’s office.

An investigation later determined Khan was impaired by marijuana, prosecutors said.

On Aug. 28, Khan pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins to aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree assault, driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree assault.

Khan is scheduled to return to court Oct. 30 and is expected to be sentenced to two to six years in prison, prosecutors said.

He is represented by attorney William Keahon, who was not available for comment.

“This defendant not only drove while impaired and hit another vehicle, but he then tried to flee the scene by speeding into oncoming traffic — causing a second collision and then a third, leaving behind multiple injured victims and wrecked vehicles,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.
