Wyandanch Man Fled From Cops Twice, Crashed Into 4 Cars: Police

The 23-year-old was driving a Mercedes with a license that has been suspended 26 times during the incident, police say.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - A Wyandanch man whose license had been suspended 26 times, was arrested after he fled two traffic stops and crashed into multiple cars in Patchogue on Thursday evening, according to Suffolk Police.

Taieek Smith, 23, was driving a 2015 Mercedes Benz northbound on Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook when a patrol officer tried to initiate a traffic stop at 5:27 p.m., police said.

Smith initially stopped his car but fled when the officer approached, police said.

The car was spotted seven minutes later heading northbound on Sills Road by a different officer who then tried to pull him over, police said.

Smith stopped at first but then drove away at a "high rate of speed," police said.

He crashed into four cars a half mile later at 5:35 p.m., police said.

As a result of the crash, four people were transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue with minor injuries, police said.

Smith was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, two counts of fleeing a police officer, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, seventh degree criminal possession a controlled substance and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

His car was impounded.

He was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

Smith was previously arrested in 2014 for an armed robbery in Lindenhurst.
