- The elevator at the Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College 2 and 5 station reopened ahead of schedule yesterday as the MTA completed its replacement. It had been closed since July 7, 2021, as part of a larger ongoing project to replace 11 hydraulic elevators at seven stations throughout the city. "Modernized equipment means customers can expect smoother and more reliable service for the long haul," said MTA Construction and Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. (Mass Transit Magazine)
- With New York City schools resuming in-person on Jan. 3, Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to double in-school COVID-19 testing to reduce the spread of the virus. The city has stockpiled 2 million at-home coronavirus tests that will be sent home to students who've had contact with the virus in the classroom. Asymptomatic students who test negative on the at-home kit can go back to school the next day and will be given a second at-home test within a week, according to officials. (Patch)
- The Flatbush YMCA will be resuming limited youth sports programs in January. Beginning the week of Jan. 17, 2022, the Y will kick off two six-week programs: basketball for ages 4 to 10 and karate for ages 7 to 17, each split into two smaller age groups. As a reminder, starting Jan. 28, 2022, all members, guests, and program participants ages 5 to 11 must be fully vaccinated and share proof of vaccination to enter the Y. (YMCA of Greater New York)
