Nov.15th Deadline for Disabled to Apply for Home Conversions

Neighbor provides application info and Nov. 15th deadline for city sponsored home conversions for permanently disabled individuals.

Project Open House, sponsored by the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, removes architectural obstructions within the homes of people with permanent disabilities. The program was created to increase independence in daily living.

Examples of the work covered under this program, would be widening doorways for wheelchair accessibility, conversion of steps into ramps, replacing plumbing fixtures with accessible ones, height shelving and railings.

Who is eligible?

  • You must reside within the 5 boroughs
  • Have a permanent disability
  • Meet Section 8 guidelines
  • The building owner must allow MOPD to perform work.

All applicants must submit registration form by MOPD (Mayor's Office of for People with Disabilities) no later November 15th, 2012. This program is first come first served basis. Late applications will not be accepted and submission of application does not guarantee acceptance.
