Recycled Art for Newkirk Plaza
Ditmas Park artist creates recycled art for Newkirk Plaza tunnel.
What might be trash for most gives Ditmas Park artist Juna Carlos Pinto inspiration. Bits of glass, mirror and broken tile that have been discarded are the stuff that dreams are made of for this artist. And he is sharing his vision and inspiration with a beautification project of a wonderful mosaic mural for the Newkirk Plaza tunnel. This project has no sponsor and it is a gift of his brain child the Brooklyn Recycle Project to the neighborhood. The Brooklyn Recycle Project is a collective that promotes community through art in public spaces while also addressing the issue of waste. So now instead of Newkirk Plaza tunnel being something that commuters and shoppers simply rush through on their way to or from the subway and shops, this is on it's way to becoming itself a destination to view a real work of art. So make sure to stop by to take in the artistry and detail of this soon to be neighborhood classic.
