Brooklyn, NY- Democratic District Leader and New York State Assembly Candidate Rodneyse Bichotte (D-Flatbush) issued the following statement strongly supporting the recent introduction of Assembly Bill A.10807 (Moya Silver, et al). This bill has been introduced as a result of President Obama's recent Executive Order which granted young people eligible for citizenship under the parameters of the Federal DREAM Act the ability to receive work permits and other protections. Last last week, the Assembly leadership acted accordingly, introducing a bill that will allow these same young people access to the same tuition assistance to SUNY and CUNY schools that full-fledged citizens currently enjoy.

"I applaud Assemblyman Moya and Speaker Silver for taking bold leadership on this critical issues," said Bichotte. "I have long championed initiatives on the federal and state levels that will allow for the newest Americans and recent immigrants to receive equal treatment under the law, and be granted the same educational opportunities as everyone else. This bill is not only a step in the right direction, but a well crafted piece of legislation that works directly in concert with President Obama's immigration policy. I urge the Assembly and Senate to pass this legislation before the year is over."

If Moya and Silver's bill does not become law this year, one of Bichotte's very first actions as an Assemblywoman will be to co-sponsor this legislation and join the large and diverse coalition of Assembly members who are pushing for it's passage.

The 42nd Assembly District contains the communities of Ditmas Park, Flatbush, East Flatbush and Midwood.
