Commentary Against Donald Trump

Donald Trump feels the freedom to spew hatred, and I feel the freedom to speak against it.

For many Donald Trump has been a joke with a bad comb over, but as he gains in popularity, this mouth that roared becomes a threat to the very values that Americans have always held dear, and that is that we are the proverbial melting pot of the world, and being so we all have a right to be here, and be recognized as Americans. And if your thoughts are running to an ideal that the real Americans of this country are white, think again, everyone that is not of Native American heritage is essentially an imported product from another country, whether it was yesterday or yesteryear, including Donald Trump who is the grandson of German immigrants on his father’s side, and the son of his Scottish immigrant mother. It is not Donald Trump’s heritage that is of concern to me, but the age-old game he is playing of finding a common enemy for people to galvanize against in order to distract from the real issues. The real issue is that we are a country where you have approximately 160,000 wealthy families that have as much wealth as 145,000,000 of the poorest families (Wealth Inequality in America, Fortune.com 10/31/14). Where large corporations have taken their manufacturing out of this country in order to pay low wages, reap bigger profits, and the CEOs earn exorbitant salaries. We have Super PACs that allow corporations to back whatever candidate they want with gobs of cash, because of the Supreme Court ruling SpeechNow.org vs FEC in 2010. We have anti-trust laws to keep corporations from creating environments of unfair competition in the marketplace, and yet we have monolithic corporations.

And now, we have Donald Trump throwing up dust clouds, masking and hiding the true reason many have their lost jobs, pensions and homes is because the wealthy in this country have been allowed to run unfettered. And who do we think Donald Trump is, someone who is going to help people get jobs and retain their pensions? What strategies and what policies has he proposed? No, he is quite wealthy and is interested in maintaining that position for himself and his cronies, and the best way to do that is to sell hate, and select a group that for the most part does not have a strong political base. After all illegal Mexicans are not really Americans, so they are a target that everyone can take a potshot at, or at the very least let someone else take a potshot at them, while we turn our back and pretend it is not happening. Well, let us not have such short memories of history, because Hitler had a very similar agenda against the Jews, of blaming them for all the ills of Germany’s poor economy. It is a very dangerous and faulty to scapegoat any one group, instead we need to look to ourselves. What can we change that will have an impact. I already see great change, with people demanding that minimum wage be raised. We need to not spend money in places or on products where the profits are unjustly divided, or products that hurt the environment.

I find it hard to fear people who are dishwashers, who do food delivery, people who sell mangos on the street, who are gardeners, and who grow the food we eat. These are the very same people who are willing to take on jobs no one else wants. Many illegals are employed by the wealthy. Donald Trump’s new hotel construction in Washington has many workers that had originally come over illegally, and who now are working hard as construction workers trying to make a living like everyone else (At Trump Hotel Site Immigrant Workers Wary, Washington Post.com 7/6/15). What is of real concern is the hate mongering rhetoric that needs to be confronted for what it is.

Instead spending money and energy on trying to keep Mexicans out, why don’t we use the same, to see what we can do to mitigate those problems that are causing them to come over.
