The new crepe restaurant La Crepe et la Vie, 1715 Foster Avenue between East 17th & 18th Streets, hosted an evening of art and music on Feb 16, 2014, featuring their chef, Brooklyn College student Michael Ferrara, singing and playing his original music on guitar, as well as art for sale by local artists. Guest artists on the bill were Aya Kiyohisa and Sae Yasuda on violins, who are also Brooklyn College students. The event was fund-raiser to help Michael Ferrara launch the production of an album for his music, and the owners Konstantino and his wife Charlene were gracious enough to turn the restaurant into a warm and intimate concert experience complete with wine, cheese and candle light.
Michael Ferrara songs were lovely rock ballads that ran a gamut from strong and passionate to soft and lyrical. Aya Kiyohisa and Sae Yasuda were delightful on violins and surprised the audience by playing Rocky Mountain High, by John Denver. For some it was a throwback to the old Vox Pop café that hosted music and used to be on Cortelyou. All in all it was an evening of pleasure with neighbors meeting neighbors and sharing an evening together. Here’s hoping that Konstantino and Charlene host more events like this again in the future.
