Ditmas Park Man Killed In Taxi Crash Sunday Night, Cops Say

Police believe Ilya Sukholinsky may have become ill while driving his taxi near Kings Highway and East 15th Street.

DITMAS PARK, BROOKLYN -- A Ditmas Park man died after his taxi crashed into metal pole Sunday night, according to police.

Ilya Sukholinsky, 62, became ill while driving his 2011 Ford Escape near Kings Highway and East 15th Street at about 11:10 p.m., police said.

Sukholinsky's cab jumped the curb and smashed into a utility pole, said police. No other cars were involved in the crash.

Emergency responders rushed Sukholinsky, whom they found unconscious behind the wheel, to New York Community Hospital, where he later died, police said.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of his death, which police believe may stem from a "medical episode" he suffered while driving.

Sukholinsky lived on Ocean Avenue near Beverly Road.
