Elderly Woman Struck Dead By Toyota On Brooklyn Sidewalk: Cops

An 89-year-old woman was struck dead on a Brooklyn sidewalk by a Toyota backing into a nearby driveway, police said.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- An elderly Brooklyn was killed when she was hit by a car backing into a driveway Wednesday evening, according to police.

Stella Clinton, 85, was walking down the sidewalk of Avenue S between Brown and Haring streets at about 4:20 p.m. when she was struck by a 2009 Toyota Highlander, police said.

The 49-year-old Toyota driver had been backing into his driveway when he hit the elderly woman and knocked her to the pavement, said police.

Emergency responders rushed the 89-year-old, who suffered severe head wounds, to Kings County Hospital where she later died, police said.

The driver was not arrested after the crash, which is being investigated by the NYPD Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad.
