Beer on Tap at the Flatbush Food Coop

Inventory focuses on local microbrews

Looking to capitalize on the craft beer craze, the Flatbush Food Coop is now carrying a small selection of top-line microbrews.

"It's something our members always wanted," said Sean Farber, assistant general manager of the Coop. "We've been trying to do it for a long time but the licensing process was really difficult to navigate."

Most of the inventory is local, with beers from Six Point, Blue Point, Saranac, and Southhampton breweries all representing New York's state's vibrant brewing scene.

"We're trying to carry the best quality of everything we can," Farber said. "Artisanal products are the best quality, and they are natural."

Although Six Point has been the best seller so far, Farber recommends Saranac Brewery's IPA and Ithaca Brewery's Flower Power.

"They're great if you like hops," he said. "Plus they are good breweries from New York state. They just aren't in the spotlight as much as the others."

Other selections include:

Framboise Lambic, Belgium, $13.99 for 750ml bottle

Southhampton Grand Cru Ale with Spices, Long Island, $13.99 for 750ml

Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Oregon, $ 8.99, 650 ml bottle

21st Amendment Back in Black IPA, San Francisco, $12.79 for 12 cans
