Handcuffed Brooklyn Man Faints And Dies After Arrest, Cops Say

The 23-year-old man fainted after he was put in handcuffs Tuesday morning and later died at Beth Israel Hospital, according to police.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- A young man fainted after police put him in handcuffs Tuesday morning and later died in an area hospital, police said.

Police arrested the unidentified 23-year-old man, who they said was "acting irrational," after receiving 911 calls about a family fight in a home near East 58th Street and Flatlands Avenue at about 5:50 a.m., according to the NYPD.

The man passed out as the arresting officers led him toward an ambulance waiting outside, at which point EMS workers told police to take off the handcuffs so they could administer CPR, police said.

Emergency responders rushed the 23-year-old to Beth Israel Hospital but doctors were unable to save his life, said police.

The Medical Examiner's office will determine the cause of death and the NYPD Force Investigation Division will investigate, according to police
