Jumaane Williams Backs Monique Chandler-Waterman For City Council

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN -- Public Advocate Jumaane Williams announced Wednesday he will endorse Monique Chandler-Waterman to replace him in representing Flatbush in the City Council.

The former District 45 representative returned to Flatbush Wednesday to announce he believes Chandler-Waterman, his former community director, should represent Flatbush, Midwood and Canarsie.

Chandler-Waterman, a community activist and former public school teacher, can be considered a favorite to win the special election on May 14 with this strong endorsement from Williams, who still has strong support in the district he once represented.

She'll face competition from Williams' former deputy chief Farah Louis, local attorney Jovia Radix, and social media icon Esther Adina Miles Sash.

The winner will represent Flatbush in City Council until 2020 and yet another election will be held in November, according to the proclamation.

Williams announced his choice the same day the New York Daily News reported Chandler-Waterman faced off against cops during a protest against her husband's suspension outside Tilden High School.

Waterman, a football coach, was suspended without pay for failing to report a sexual assault allegation within 24 hours, sources told the Daily News.

“I'm on the front lines all the time, personally de-escalating situations, when y'all f--- up and shoot somebody in the community,” Chandler-Waterman reportedly told police officers.

“I advocate for you, I advocate for the community.”
