Kevin Parker Wants To Teach New York About Mental Health: Report

The state senator who tweeted "Kill yourself!" to a GOP rep told the New York Post he wants to "expand people's knowledge" of mental health.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN -- The Flatbush state Senator who tweeted to a GOP representative, "Kill yourself!" wants to teach other people about good mental health, according to reports.

State Sen. Kevin Parker not only agreed to sign up for Thrive NYC mental health training, which the city's first lady Chirlane McCray suggested he do earlier this week, he also wants to teach others, the New York Post reported.

"I’m going to personally encourage him to take our mental health first aid training course," McCray said at a press conference Wednesday.

"I am going to take her up on her offer after the first of the year and get the training" Parker told the Post, "and expand people’s knowledge and understanding around issues around mental health in the New Year."

Parker's pledge to expand on the city's mental health awareness came days after he sent the blunt and public message to Candice Giove, deputy communications director for the New York State Senate's Republican majority, deleted his Tweet, sent Giove an apology, then continued to insult her.

"@Candicegiove is on the wrong side of history for every important issue facing New York State," Parker wrote. "Where was when NYers voted for a State Senate & progressive legislation like the Dream Act & CFE funding?"

"Point of order, Senator," replied Walter Shaub, former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. "It's customary after apologizing for telling someone to kill herself that one lays off the social media attacks for a while."

The Post also reported that the senator' Lexus RX 450h, which sparked the online tirade Tuesday, broke state laws with ;its lapsed inspection, unauthorized dashboard placard and license plates that do not match its registration.

Parker told the Post his paperwork is in order except for the car's registration.

“I just been forgetting to do it,” said the senator. "You have to scrape it out and put the new one in.”
