Migrant Farmworkers March in Bklyn 5/21

The Rural Migrant Ministry a non-profit organization that advocates for the rights of rural and migrant farmworkers is sponsoring "THE MIGRANT FARMWORKERS MARCH FOR JUSTICE, May 15th- June 1st." The march is starting in Brentwood/Bethpage, Long Island and then continuing on through Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan and going upstate to Albany.

The marchers are requesting legislators in Albany to sign into law "The Farmworkers Fair Practices Law Act," to provide the farmworkers with rights that they do not have now.

NY State Farm workers are excluded from minimum wage.
NY State Farm workers are not entitled to a day of rest per week.
NY State Farm workers are not allowed collective bargaining.
NY State Farm workers are excluded from most labor laws that protect the individual.

Starting Point: 8:30am-10am Cadman Plaza Park (172 Cadman Plaza E, Brooklyn/ High Street Station A, C Lines/ Clark Street Station 2, 3 Lines) to City Hall Plaza (Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall Station-4, 5, 6 Lines/ City Hall Station-R Line/ Park Place Station-2, 3 Lines/ Chamber Street Station-J, Z Lines ) 1.5 miles

Segment B: 10:30am-11am City Hall Plaza to St. Mark’s in the Bowery (131 East 10th St) 1.7 miles

LUNCH 11am-11:30am at St. Mark’s in the Bowery (131 East 10th St) with musical guests the St. Mark's Choir and Ensemble

Segment C: 11:30am-12pm St. Mark’s in the Bowery (131 East 10th St) to Union Square (14th & Broadway) .5 miles

RALLY 12pm-1pm Union Square (14th & Broadway)

Segment D: 1pm-3:30pm Union Square to B’nai Jeshurun Community House (270 West 89th Street) 4 miles

BREAK 3:30pm-4:15pm B’nai Jeshurun (270 West 89th Street)

Segment E: 4:15pm-6pm B’nai Jeshurun to Holyrood Episcopal Church (715 West 179th Street) 4.7 miles
Washington Heights residents, local elected officials and neighborhood organizations will cheer farmworkers marching for justice as they reach the end the day's march.
