17-Year-Old Stabbed, Robbed at Tribeca Skate Park

The boy was stabbed in the leg, robbed and pushed to the ground, police said.

TRIBECA, NY — A 17-year-old boy was robbed and stabbed Friday evening at the skate park inside Hudson River Park near Pier 25, police said. Two teenage male suspects, both from Queens, were arrested in connection to the incident.

The victim, a senior at Stuyvesant High School, arranged to sell designer hoodies to a woman named "Jessica," who he talked to on Facebook's online marketplace, the victim's friends told the Daily News.

He agreed to meet the woman at the skate park at 4:30 p.m., but was instead met by the two suspects at around 6 p.m., police said.

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested Friday night and charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, while the 16-year-old suspect was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with one count of robbery. According to police, the victim knew who both suspects were.

The Daily News reports that the 16-year-old had been arrested in October for carrying a six-blade knife and a firearm, while the 17-year-old had been arrested twice for petit larceny and possession of a controlled substance.

Tribeca Trib spoke with Madelyn Wils, president of the Hudson River Park Trust, who said the skate park is generally very safe.

“We continue to spend quite a bit of money on security and we’re outfitting the park, starting with Tribeca, with cameras," Wils told the Trib. "Security is important to us, but there’s no one who can ever prevent something like this from happening.”
