Climate Week Events, Programs Coming To Battery Park City: What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — Battery Park City Authority will celebrate Climate Week NYC with a series of free programs focused on climate resilience, sustainability and the environment beginning this week.

Climate Week will run from Sunday, Sept. 20, through Saturday, Sept. 26.

Key events include:

• Sept. 22, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. — Wagner Park Pavilion Classroom: A Climate Resilience Institute symposium, “Absorb, Adapt, Thrive,” will explore nature-based infrastructure and coastal resilience.
• Sept. 22, 3 p.m. — 6 River Terrace: Ruth Moskovitch and entomologist Vinton Thompson, PhD, will discuss how spittlebugs are adapting to rising temperatures, followed by a panel discussion and bioblitz.
• Sept. 23, 1:30 p.m. — Rockefeller Park: BPCA beekeepers will discuss urban bee habitats and their role in sustainability.
• Sept. 23, 6 p.m. — Wagner Park Tide Deck: BPCA and the Lower East Side Ecology Center will host “Fun, Femme Fishing,” an inclusive fishing event for new and experienced anglers. Registration is required.
• Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m. — Wagner Park Pavilion Classroom: Artist Sarah Cameron Sunde will lead a panel on public art, climate change and preparing for extreme weather.
• Sept. 25, 8:30–11 a.m. — Wagner Park Pavilion Classroom: A panel and guided walking tour will examine Lower Manhattan’s preparations for climate change, coastal storms and rising seas.
• Sept. 25, 5 p.m. — Teardrop Park: Lori Klamner will lead a forest-bathing meditation focused on reconnecting with nature.

The Climate Week NYC programming is open to the public, with registration required for the fishing event.
