Scam Artists Cons Woman of $6,000 in Target Gift Cards in Financial District: NYPD
The unknown caller claimed she was a federal agent with the FBI, police said.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — Police are looking for a scam artist who demanded $6,000 in Target gift cards from a woman at work at a Broadway municipal building on Dec. 13.
Police said the 27-year-old woman was at work between Pine and Cedar Streets, when at 11 a.m. she received a call from a woman who said she was a federal agent with the FBI.
The unknown woman on the phone demanded $6,000 in Target gift cards from the victim. The suspect said if the victim provided the gift cards, she wouldn't be arrested for providing bogus taxi information, police told Patch.

The victim walked to a nearby pharmacy and purchased the gift cards. The victim realized it was a scam when she later called the IRS, police said.
