Hochul announces progress to expand universal pre-K statewide (cbs6albany.com) — Families in the East Greenbush Central School District will see new pre-K seats added as part of Governor Hochul's push to make universal pre-K available statewide by the 2028–2029 school year. East Greenbush is among 45 Capital Region districts benefiting from this latest round of funding, which is part of a $1.7 billion statewide childcare investment for 2027.
   

• Rensselaer County groups push sheriff to follow NY ICE law (wnyt.com) — Residents can attend a 6 p.m. public forum in East Greenbush where local groups will urge Rensselaer County leaders and the sheriff to follow New York's Local Cops, Local Crimes Act limiting cooperation with ICE. Advocates say taxpayers shouldn't fund the sheriff's legal fight and argue all community members deserve due process, while the sheriff challenges the law in court.
   

• Mothers push for kratom ban in Rensselaer County (news10.com) — Rensselaer County lawmakers are weighing a ban on the herbal supplement kratom after emotional testimony at a public hearing held at the county legislative chambers in East Greenbush. Three mothers described how their sons died after using kratom for pain, sleep, or energy, urging legislators to act. The proposed ban will be discussed at the Legislature's Sept. 8 meeting.
