• New York State Police Launch "Operation Southern Shield" to Increase Safety Along the Southern State Parkway (longisland.com) — State Police are stepping up enforcement along the Southern State Parkway all the way to Heckscher State Park in East Islip now through June 12, 2026. Expect more troopers watching for speeding, distracted, impaired, and aggressive driving as part of “Operation Southern Shield,” aimed at cutting serious crashes and reminding drivers that every choice behind the wheel counts.    

• High school roundup: Softball, baseball, lacrosse and flag football (newsday.com) — East Islip boys lacrosse pulled out a dramatic 10-9 overtime win against Shoreham-Wading River, with AJ Ierardi tying it late and Owen Madden netting the winner. The roundup also highlights standout softball, baseball, lacrosse, and flag football performances from schools across Nassau and Suffolk, giving Long Island sports fans a quick look at Thursday’s top high school action.
