EAST ISLIP, NY — Family and friends filled the stands at Sal Ciampi Field at Boomer Esiason Stadium as graduates processed onto the field, marking the culmination of their high school journey and the beginning of a new chapter.

A special ceremony honored members of East Islip High School’s Class of 1976 with a second diploma, celebrating 50 years of achievements and community impact. Graduates who will be serving in the military after commencement were also recognized.

Following the presentation of diplomas and the traditional turning of the tassels, graduates celebrated together as hundreds of red caps soared into the air. The joyful moment was met with cheers from the stands as East Islip’s newest alumni took their first steps toward the next chapter of their lives.

Class of 2026 President Alison Rosati recognized the top 25 seniors and invited them to stand as she announced the colleges they will attend this fall.

Principal Anthony Montemarano reflected on the passage of time from kindergarten to senior year.

“While today marks the end of a chapter, it is also the beginning — continue serving, succeeding and creating new memories,” he said.

Montemarano emphasized the importance of holding on to cherished moments, appreciating accomplishments and thanking those who helped the graduates along the way.

“It was the small, everyday interactions that truly made high school so special,” said salutatorian Angel Mai, whose remarks focused on appreciating the present rather than only looking ahead to future goals.

Mai concluded by capturing one final high school memory with her digital camera, urging everyone to smile and celebrate the journey.

Valedictorian Liam Eichler reflected on his second-grade moving-up ceremony, when he and his classmates shared dreams of becoming teachers, doctors, police officers and scientists. He encouraged the Class of 2026 to keep pursuing their dreams and to bring the same energy, spirit and acceptance to their future endeavors that they showed throughout high school.

Superintendent Paul Manzo encouraged graduates to continue challenging themselves, embrace new opportunities and lead with integrity. He also noted the significance of their graduation coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States, reminding students that every generation has the power to help shape the nation’s future.

Board of Education President Stephen Ruland congratulated the graduates and offered words of advice.

“Remember your roots, seek help when needed, take your time to find your passion and be kind and respectful,” he said.
