• Coast Guard, West Islip Fire Department Save 5 in Dramatic Water Recue Near Fire Island Inlet (longisland.com) — East Islip residents may be reassured to know their local fire department helped save five people after a boat began sinking near the Fire Island Inlet on Monday afternoon. Working with West Islip FD, the Coast Guard, and neighboring departments, crews quickly reached the scene, assisted the patients, and brought the incident under control in about 40 minutes.
