• Fast-acting fans at Smithtown High School East soccer game come to aid of stricken ref (newsday.com) — Parents and staff from East Islip and Smithtown sprang into action when a referee collapsed during a girls' JV soccer game between Smithtown East and East Islip High School, using CPR and an AED to revive him. An East Islip parent and former firefighter was among those leading the lifesaving effort, and officials say the referee is now expected to make a full recovery.
