EAST ISLIP, NY — Three East Islip High School student musicians have earned All-State recognition from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), with two selected to perform at the organization's Winter Conference in Rochester this December.
Eva Daugherty, a soprano, was selected for the All-State Mixed Chorus, while Evan Kornely, a double bass player, earned a spot in the All-State String Orchestra. French horn player Luke Tursi was selected as an All-State alternate.
Daugherty and Kornely will join student musicians from across New York State to rehearse and perform challenging musical selections during the conference, which will culminate in a performance at the Eastman Theatre.
"We congratulate all three students on this tremendous achievement and thank their teachers Bethany Affelt, Chris Neske and Giovanna Ruggiero," East Islip Director of Art and Music Dr. Caitlin Hale said. "We can't wait to see all the new rehearsal techniques and ensemble skills they will bring back to their classmates."
