Man's Leg Trapped In East Islip Car Wash Roller: Police

Firefighters and Suffolk police used spreaders, grinders and a torch to free the man, officials said.

EAST ISLIP, NY — A man was hospitalized after his leg became trapped in a car wash roller in East Islip Thursday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

Police responded to Mr. Suds Flex Car Wash of East Islip at 171 Carleton Ave. at about 4:45 p.m. after the man's leg became stuck in the roller, police said.

The East Islip Fire Department said First Assistant Chief Michael Hand arrived and confirmed the man was trapped before requesting extrication equipment.

Multiple fire department units worked with the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section to free the man, using spreaders, grinders and a torch, according to the fire department.

Suffolk County Police MEDCAT and Exchange Ambulance personnel cared for the man during the extrication, fire officials said.

The man was eventually freed and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
