EAST ISLIP, NY — The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office claimed both overall first-place finishes at the annual Paws for Freedom 5K Run and Walk on Saturday at Heckscher State Park.
Correction Officer Richard Strom finished first overall in the men's division, while sheriff's office professional staff member Jackie Whist took first overall in the women's division, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office.
More than a dozen sheriff's office correction officers and professional staff members participated in the Oct. 24 event, which was hosted by the nonprofit organization Paws of War.
The annual fundraiser brought together community members, veterans, first responders and their canine companions to support Paws of War's mission of helping heroes and saving dogs.
